ABOUT ME

Psychotherapy, Counselling and Healing with Empathy, is the only way I know
how to work with clients. Emphatics’ feel the emotions of others in a stronger
way than most people. I feel their sadness and joy in the way they do and this
ultimately affects the way I interact with clients.

I’m a Black woman bought up with white Foster Parents. I had regular contact
with my birth family so learnt to co-exist in both societies often being a
chameleon until I found myself.

I became a mother in my teens and
studied to become a teacher to the for 11-17yr olds. I then qualified and
taught Adults in colleges. During this time I wrote a book on Rastafarians
which was used in Schools and Colleges in Cambridgeshire. My second child was
born in 1980 and within 6 weeks I was teaching children with Learning
Difficulties. Their problems ranged from Autism, Mental Illness, Family
Problems, Homelessness, Abuse, and problems with the police. Despite all this,
they were all keen to study and become the best they could be.

During this time I became friends
with a mixed race girl who was in a children’s home because of a sexually
abusive father. She was anxious to leave the home and absconded on many
occasions. I registered with Social Services as a Foster Parent and very soon
she came to live with us.

I was asked to become an Agony Aunt
with the Black Women’s magazine ‘Candace’. As well as this I also became the
main feature writer, covering Issues of Sexuality, Domestic Violence, and
Relationships. The Domestic Violence issues interested me so I soon found
apart time post in a Women’s Refuge, and spent my other working hours as an
Advice Worker for the Asian community. My main areas of work were Housing,
Social Security benefits, and trying to bridge the gap between the Asian
community and the main population in the area.

Sadly the magazine folded and the
Advice Centre closed due to lack of funding. I realised I had a lot of
knowledge of which I could use to help people, so I set up my own business as
a Therapist.
